Comments:For those too slow to get a place in the Oxford half marathon, or with an aversion to big town races, parking queues, etc. the Swindon half marathon offers a most enjoyable alternative. I am not sure why it is called the Swindon half marathon as the route quickly turns its back on the town and heads south east towards the rolling fields surrounding the villages of Badbury and Liddington and even follows the Ridgeway for a mile or so! Its playful undulations are somewhat reminiscent of the Cotswold Classic in places, with views to match. Not a PB course thanks to over 100m of vertical climb, although the final 400m is one of the most enjoyable downhill finishes you will come across. The start is near to Nationwide’s massive offices, with an enormous car park and access is no problem before and after the event. All in all a very well organised race, virtually traffic free and all entrants get a red British Heart Foundation T-shirt (although it is cotton). I only saw Christian at the event, but if there are any others, please add your details.
