Comments:I am not normally a fan of big city races, but the “Vitality” Bath Half Marathon is well worth a look. I could not fault the organisation – there were 15,000 runners and they all seemed to be processed with efficiency at the start and the finish. One of my reservations for these events is the mass start and how you find yourself getting held up/stopping due to slower runners. No a chance of that happening here as all entrants were allotted “pens” which were strictly evidence based on previous results (so no cheating!)
For those of you who don’t know the race, it starts and finishes near the city centre where the support is phenomenal. It then heads out to the west along the river basin, so it is pretty much flat. The route does two laps of that and then you head for the finish. There is plenty of water and lucozade and musical accompaniment all the way round. This year, the weather was absolutely perfect too, so PBs were there for the taking. It is pricey, but it has all the mod cons – technical T-shirt, medal and other random snacks in the goody bag.
