When did you join HRR and what prompted you to join?
I joined HRR in November 2017, after being encouraged by existing members who assured me that being slow and new to running would be absolutely fine. They were right!
When did you start running?
I started with the Couch to 5K in April 2017. Never been a runner before, so it was a brand new hobby to take up in my late 40’s. Also known as mid-life crisis.
What inspired you to become a leader?
I was inspired by the warm welcome and ongoing support of the existing coaches and leaders. They helped me achieve running distances I would have never thought possible and made it enjoyable.
What group leading do you do at HRR?
I tend to shepherd one of the Thursday runs. I am also involved in supporting some of the Tuesday Interval sessions and weekend runs.
What is your favourite race?
Before lock-down hit I completed my first ever half Marathon, the Oxford Half. Torrential non-stop rain, painful leg, a loudly singing pacer, enthusiastic crowds, music, a medal, a t-shirt. And I didn’t come last. What more can you ask for?
What have been your best leading moments?
I tend to get lost, so asking people which route they “prefer” and then letting them go ahead to find the way. I like how people are in it for the talking as much as the running-lots of mutual interest and support.
Anything else you'd like to add?
Leading is fun and rewarding-would be great to have more on the team.
