|Article:||HRR recently secured support from England Athletics to participate in its Club Run programme ((led by Dan, Chris & I). The aim of the programme is to support road running clubs and their membership in achieving their desired goals.
Our specific aim is boosting HRR’s performance at a regional/national level in XC and relays, as well as helping build the coaching capacity at our club
Targets include the Southern Relays (23rd Sep), the Southern XC relays (21st Oct), the Master XC relays (28th Oct), the BBO XC championship (19th Nov), and the South of England AA Championships at Parliament Hill - whether you are a senior or veteran athlete, or a scorer for the A, B or C teams, there will be an option suitable!
We have been matched with Bryan Clinton, an experienced coach with Swindon Harriers who has been an active member of the National Coach Development Programme and has also delivered Club Run sessions to other clubs last year with great success. He will visit us three times, each time providing:
A full practical coaching session including an extended warm up including mobility, drills, technique work, a main running session and cool down
Opportunity either before or after the main session for informal discussion around key road running related topics. e.g. Race day prep, nutrition, etc
Support/guidance to our coaching team on session planning between visits
While the training is targeted at faster runners competing for the cub at a regional and national level, there will be suitable options for anyone already routinely doing structured training (peed work or intervals) to improve their running and we would welcome all. It promises to be a great, session, so come prepared to work hard!
In addition, this is a great opportunity for any members keen to learn more about coaching or interested in leading structured training sessions for the club to observe a top class coach in action.
The first session will be in South Park on Tuesday Aug 1st, starting at 6.30 (expect the session to last c. 2 hrs). We will meet where the XC training meets- at the bench half way down the park on the Cheney Lane side.
Dates TBC for the further sessions
