HRR Women's teams take 4th and 20th places in 4 Stage road relays
Date:27 Sep 2004
Article:Headington women were fourth in the South of England 4-stage road relays, held at Aldershot on Sunday. Despite posting a faster time than their bronze medal winning performance of two years ago, the strong Headington team finished an agonizing11 seconds behind third placed Highgate. The last leg saw Jude Craft claw back 50 seconds on the team ahead, but this was not enough to take them into a medal slot. “We’re obviously disappointed to finish so close to a medal, but everyone gave 100% on the day, we posted our best time yet in the event, and yet again showed that a small Oxford club can compete against the big league teams’, said team manager and first leg runner Allison Hirst. “It was great to see three of our team also post individual times in the top 20 fastest legs of the day, showing we’re still a force to be reckoned with. Tracy Galbraith ran a stunning leg to move us up into 4th place at the end of leg 3’.

The Headington club also showed depth in their women’s squad, with their B team finishing in the top 20 for the first time, being 2nd B team on the day, ahead of many of their keenest rivals. Diane Moore showed a massive improvement on her performance of two years ago, taking over 40 seconds off her previous time over the course.
