the descent to FingestThere are several races in the Chilterns at this time of year and today it was a 10K from the village of Frieth just 5 miles from Marlow. This is the fourth time this race has been held, and for the last few years, the weather for this race has been chilly but with bright sunshine. Today was no exception.

The race involves sections on road, trails and footpaths through woods and fields, including challenging off-road descents and ascents. There's one point where the path comes out of a wood to go along the side of a field down to the village of Fingest. You descend steeply: from 160m to 90m during the course of 0.5K. It's shown in the photo.

After a flat section along lanes through Fingest and Skirmett, there are three uphill sections on the route back to Frieth. The first two hills are in woods; you go from 80m to 160m in about 2K. The last hill is the last 0.5K up Frieth's main street: here you climb from about 140m to 175m.

As is usual with this race, there was a wonderful atmosphere with people clapping, shouting and cheering almost anywhere where the route hits a road junction and at many other places too.

After the race, you could enjoy bacon rolls, hot dogs, cakes and coffee. Once again the Frieth Hilly 10K provided an excellent morning!

5 HRR runners took part with Jim Thorn again getting the 2nd MV40 prize. If you got a pb, please e-mail me and I'll add it.
