Comments:After a very grey start to the day, Yorkshire came to life
as 4,000 runners assembled at the University for this
inaugural Jane Tomlinson inspired event. The day brightened,
and a mere 2 minute smattering of drizzle couldn't dampen
our spirits.

Dickie Bird started the race at 9.30am, and we were off for
Two Miles through the city centre taking in the historic
sights of the City Walls, Clifford's Tower and The Minster
before heading out North East to wind our way through the
beautiful countryside of East Riding, and soon we were
meandering back towards the city heading into sunshine and
blue skies. Billed as "flatter than London" (a marketing
exaggeration I'm afraid) the course is nonetheless
definitely flat by Yorkshire standards. Very well supported
along the length of the route, with very few stretches
without someone to cheer you on - fitting for a city
marathon but in the country. A sneaky hill greets you about
25½ miles (but you run down it at the start, so hardly
unexpected) before a downhill sprint to the Finish Line.
Fantastic medal, decent t-shirt (plenty of choice of sizes),
and a good goody bag. Ok, there were one or two teething
issues for the first marathon, but only to be expected. I am
sure it will only get better next year.

You can pre-register now - definitely worth doing if you're
interested since:
"Places will go on sale in January and with 2013 entries
selling out in a matter of days, demand is expected to be
exceptionally high."

I would highly recommend this marathon - it's definitely a
PB course. And next year it shouldn't clash with Abingdon!
