|Comments:||A cool, dry, sunny morning ideal conditions for a trail marathon? Not quite. A brisk cold wind meant some of the route would be hard work, especially when it ushered in a smattering of rain in the afternoon. The race guide stated 90 percent trails and off-road shoes recommended - however there was a mix of road and very hard chalk paths. Given the dry weather road shoes would have been fine. A contrast from last year when people found the mud hard-going.
Route well marked, decent feed stations with gels, bananas, cake, crisps, water and squash. Chip timed and medal.
It wasn't quite as scenic as I was expecting, nor as flat. Also a half marathon (one lap) option - which started an hour later and whose runners were lapping us before we finished.
Great to see a fellow HRR runner there (even if I couldn't keep up with him).
