|Comments:||This was the 1st 10k held at the Olympic Park, race starts outside the stadium in different waves about 10 minutes apart and finishes on the Olympic track.
I had managed to get into the orange section which meant I started in the 1st batch of runners. Paula Radcliffe Started the race and my chip time reflects the fact that I stopped after crossing the start line to take photos of her!
The route is on the closed access roads of the Olympic site, I know the area well and expected it to be flat but it was surprisingly undulating. There are several out and back sections and loops so you can see a lot of the runners at various points both in front and behind you. Music around the course including a few bands / groups, I suspect in due course the number of these will probably grow!
Not cheap for a 10k but if you want to run on the Olympic track this is your race, chip timed, a medal, cotton T shirt, goody bag containing sports drinks and various items of food means and least you get some return on your out lay but If you don't like big busy events this isn't for you!
An early start but you can either be home in time for a late lunch or make a day of it with a family 2k run or Team Marathon distance relay in the afternoon or go shopping at the nearby Westfield shopping centre at Stratford. I drove but with the new Oxford Park way Station opening at Kidlington in the Autumn next year would be easy to hop on the train!
A reported 15000 runners although haven't worked out how to find all the results. Managed to locate 3 HRR's in the results although didn't see them on the day, if there were any others there please add your results or message me to add for you.
Entries are already open for next year, I have already entered, if anybody wants to join me would be happy to arrange a mini bus / coach for a HRR day out!!
