Due to the flooding and extreme weather conditions the race was almost cancelled. However, it stopped raining for us and the race was postponed by a hour to let the rivers go down. The conditions made the course very heavy going (described in a fell running on line article as very rough and challenging) and the distance extended by 3/4 mile to avoid a deep water crossing at the end. The weather conditions and extension to the course, obviously impacted on the times. However, the sun did come out, and the rain stopped for the whole of the day.
As usual, the atmosphere at the end of the course was upbeat with free tea and food.
Any one who finished deserved a prize. It was Philip listers, Philip Munday's, Steve Cowl's, Morton Lenholm's, Andrew Munday's, Sarah Farrow's and Charlotte Coles's first MvH. More noticable victories were: in the female relay team with Aine Lyng, Nichola Smith and Anita James (me) securing second position, Sarah Farrow achieved 2nd postion in the female 50+ category and Maureen O'Sullivan was 1st F60 and the only women in her age category to finish! What was even more amazing, was that Maureen, despite the course being 3/4 mile longer, and the bad weather conditions, managed a PB!
In all, a great HRR weekend in Llanwrtyd Wells; the evening barbeque was very sociable and not surprisingly, we were all in bed by 11pm (even me!).
