My third year of entering this hilly cross country race in Epping Forest, and the first when it has been warm, sunny and with the course largely dry underfoot. Whilst we did not sink ankle-deep in the bridleways this year, I am pleased to report that due to various drainage ditches, it was still impossible to complete the race without getting at least one foot completely submerged in mud. With the dry conditions, it should have been a day for fast times, but I don't think either the men's or women's course records were broken, and it was a slow day for me as well. It's a great event all the same - how many other races do you know where they have champagne at the finish ?! |
