Lincolnshire is flat. Lincolnshire is windy. That pretty much sums up this excellent race.
Starting at RAF College Cranwell, a major training base (and home of the Red Arrows, I think?) this race is one loop of a large rectangle. Only 4 roads in it - all of which were many miles long and almost dead straight.
But the wind! Around 5 miles of headwind, and the rest a crosswind, made it a very tough race. Even the locals said its never normally this windy.
Interesting to see a few Newbury, OUCCC, Bearbrook & Chiltern Harriers there - clearly all got the same idea after Wokingham was cancelled.
Cheap to enter, a t-shirt & cup of tea after the race and a mystery prize for the final finisher was a nice touch. If you want a flat & fast half, this is well worth the 266 mile round trip |
