Comments: Eighth and well yes, last finisher. A great day out but not a good race, even though it's my second-best time ever for the distance. Worldwide media rights on how a geriatric like me gets to be 8th in a National Championship are now open for bids - at present it looks like it might appear in the September HRR mag. For those who remember James or Mara - James Bowler was 7th in his heat of the 1500m and didn't qualify for the final despite getting a better time than some of the qualifiers from other heats. Mara Yamauchi was one of 17 athletes named on the AAA website as competitors in the womens' 5000m but as the TV viewers amongst us will have seen, only three contested the event and Mara wasn't among them. Star Oxfordshire competitor was City's Nathan Douglas, bronze medallist in the triple jump.
