Comments: As any Oxford Mail reader is by now aware, the big local news from Manchester was that Oxford City's Nathan Douglas got himself an Olympic place as well as the national championship in the men's Triple Jump. Radley's Rachel Brenton was also there in the women's TJ. If anyone's wondering what happenned to Kevin Sheppard, winner of the Oxon XC title and of various Motavation events in recent years, he was 3rd in the Steeplechase and appeared to be being coached by Mick Woods of AFD fame. For me, a better taper, a better warmup, cooler conditions, and someone to chase all through, meant my race went considerably better than last year. I improved my time by almost a minute and a half, took 30 seconds off my PB, and I wasn't last! For those interested, the qualifying time in the mens 5000m (run) this year was 14:15 and the last finisher came in in 14:35. For women the times were 17:00 and 17:22 respectively. But what is it with UKA and road running clubs? For the second year in a row I wasn't credited with a club affiliation, despite sending them the information.
