Type: Road
Comments: A friendly and well-organised race held in miserable conditions. Scheduled ideally for a paced-training run in preparation for the spring marathons. The course is described by the organisers as “undulating”. This is an understatement! The two unequal length laps (12 miles and then 8 miles) were on quiet country (non flat) roads through several North Bedfordshire villages. The strong winds, heavy rain and cold weather presented challenging conditions with parts of the course underwater for the full width of the road. I have never seen a runner lose a shoe in a road-race before [as he was attempting to run on a surprising boggy verge to avoid a flooded section of road]. Good post-race tea and bacon rolls made up for the rotten conditions outside. A long-sleeved technical running top was an excellent race memento. One for the diary for next year.
