The first of three lake races in Milton Keynes over the
Easter bank holiday weekend kicks off with the Good Friday
Marathon, the longest running marathon in the Enigma Running
calendar, now in its fifth year.
My target today was to sneak in under 5 hours (the cut-off
for anyone wanting to do the half marathon in the afternoon
too), but not by too much so I could keep something back for
race number two! Although sunny, there was a brisk wind,
which was in your face alongside the northbound length of
lake Caldecotte, so the 7.25 laps were not the easiest I've
done there. A quick cup of coffee in the pub, a change of
running shoes & top, and I'm back out to join the others...
(Oh - and you'll note from the results that the last finisher was one of the "plodders" - who actually walked the whole event as he's coming back from injury. I ended up lapping him again on the afternoon's half marathon, but all credit to him for his determination to not give up and finish the race, even if he was in pain by the end). |
