The Buxton Half is a very hilly road run up in the Peak District. Over
1500 feet of climb with the first 3 miles all up hill. The views once
you are up there (and hopefully still alive) are fabulous and then
there is a wonderful descent of course. The trouble is there is a
killer shorter uphill just after that. The weather on the day was too
hot really but on the turn from the first 3 mile hill was into a strong
headwind that blew your cap off but also cooled you down.
A tough race but if you run it knowing you aren't going to get a PB
but as a challenge then it is a fantastic experience. Well marshalled
and the start and finish in Buxton Pavilion gardens was lovely, the
band played, the sun shone and ice cream and hot dogs were eaten.
This was incorporated into a weekend away and there were as many
injured/non running HRR supporters cheering us on as competitors. |
