The rain stopped just in time to allow the first club 5k of the year to be run in almost perfect conditions. Mika Vesterinen running the club 5k for the first time was the first person to cross the finish line in 17:28, just ahead of a close battle between Richard Ashby and Jason Smith for second place. Diane Foster was the first woman finisher and on the age-graded calculation was the overall winner. Her score of 84.4 therefore is the target for everyone else in the next rounds. John Griffiths recorded his best score since 2014 with Jason and Kevin Bryne also close to the 80.0 mark. There were a number of other great personal performances further down the field.

Round 2 is on Saturday 26 May and in addition to age-graded results the time/position based results will count towards the 2018 HRR road championships (https://www.hrr.org.uk/clubchamps/road/).
