A crack team of Headington Roadrunners eschewed the delights of Hanney and went chasing glory in Wiltshire. Conditions were near perfect; there was no wind and despite the sunshine, temperatures were bearable.
This is a well-established and deceptively flat out and back course from the charming Saxon town of Cricklade out towards Ashton Keynes and back. There is also a 10k (and a fun run) which depart after the half marathon has set off. My initial goal was to reach the point where the 10k and half marathon courses split before the 10k leader caught me up (at about 4 miles). I nearly managed it, and was offered encouragement from Aaron Burgess of Oxford AC who was burning up the opposition on his way to winning the 10k race in 34:10.
Later on I was acknowledged by none other than ex-HRR webmaster Fraser Howard, wobbling out of a café on a bike.
All this support spurred me onto a PB and Sandra finished strongly to take the V50 ladies category (and fifth lady overall).
This is a well organised race with chip times and a medal for all finishers. |
