A very cold, but sunny start to Day Two of the Enigma
Running Fireworks double marathon weekend (I chose the right
day, Day One chucked it down!) saw 57 runners line at at the
side of Caldecotte Lake near Milton Keynes for 7.25 laps. I
soon fell in with a pack of runners all aiming for 4 hours,
or thereabouts - hoping that I might just squeeze in under
for the 2nd time in 3 weeks. By about halfway - I'd managed
to break clear of the group, only to have a couple of the
stronger finishers pass me with 2 miles to go, but at least
they spurred me on to finish close behind them - just 19
seconds slower than my previous best at the Yorkshire
Marathon.
Enigma Running organise several multiple marathons
throughout the year (doubles, a treble, a quadruple and this
year a 7in7 days event). Fairly low key with only 25-70
runners in each race and always a good medal to add to the
collection. Less than an hour's drive from Oxford these
races are very popular with people chasing down their
membership of the 100 marathon club. Being multiple laps,
they're perhaps not to everyone's taste, but pretty good all
the same. See http://www.enigmarunning.co.uk/ for more details. |
