Finstock 10k
A beautiful little race put on by our friends at Witney RC for the benefit of the local primary school. It takes place entirely within the grounds of Cornbury park, which is a bit like Blenheim with none of the gauche ostentation. The course is completely traffic free and consists of grass, gravel tracks and tarmac drive. None of it is entirely flat although there are no hills as such. Overall it's quite hard work and you might think about a time 10 percent longer than normal – but in scenery much more than 10 percent better than normal. Fraser Howard said to me before the start to expect an extra 4 minutes on my time so I was determined to finish under 44mins. I missed it by 0.63 of a second, but I won a bottle of wine for being first very old git anyway so I went home happy.
Toilets but no other facilities. All the usual age category prizes and a mug for every finisher.
Well worth the entry fee of £13. There is also a cash prize for a new course record which for the ladies is currently 41:28. Hmmmmm.
