A half in the Lake District, well, it was never going to be flat! But we didn't realise quite what we'd let ourselves in for until we drove round the course on Friday evening. Four major (0.5 + miles) climbs, a couple of 1:4 hills for good measure, Witney-esque undulations on the 'easy' parts of the course... and the most spectacular finishing straight you're ever likely to run on - over the mountain pass at about 11.5 miles with Langdale at your feet, a steep downhill stretch and a mile of flat (the only flat on the whole course) in to the finish. B****y hard work, well organised, extremely friendly, and stunningly beautiful. Highly recommended! But we'll be leaving the full marathon (another lap of the same) to Hanno! |
