A seriously hilly race on the edge of the Peak District - over 400m of ascent. Thankfully, most of it comes in the first half of the race, but there's a long climb to mile 11 and a nasty uphill finish. The hard work is more than compensated by the magnificent views, and you get a couple of miles after the climb to the Roaches to enjoy them! Very competitive at the front end of the field - lots of wiry fell running types. I just beat the first V70 who'd come flying past me on the downhill section, while Richard, finishing seconds behind the first lady and course record holder, was less than impressed to come over the finish line to find the winner walking his dog! |
