Race to the Stones

Date: 13th Jul 2019
Distance: 100km
Type: MT
Comments: The third and final race of the Threshold Trail Series, this was a little flatter than the first two but 8-9 miles longer. The course meandered it’s way west from Lewknor, across the south of England to Avebury stone circle in Wiltshire. The weather was kind to us (the forecast sun barely ever showed up) and the terrain varied from roads to deeply rutted trails. The “field of dreams” at about 10 miles was a highlight, crops stretching out a mile in front of us in a shallow valley. The aid stations were well stocked with food, water and support, but 62 miles will eventually take its toll on you (unless you are Saeed Khan), and by the time we ran around one of the Stones (at 98km) I was more appreciative of the prospect of a sit down than of the history of the site. I’d recommend it, either as a non-stop event or split over two days. Thanks so much to everyone who donated to my Papyrus suicide prevention page - £5000 raised, challenge done!
