This year's Southern 20K championship was held on the seafront at Littlehampton on the Sussex coast - yes, in February, I think Max Miller did all the jokes, and yes, it was quite cold but not as bad as it could have been. This was my first 20K and my longest race (in terms of time) since the mad Offa's Dyke 15-mile run that a minibusload of us did on a blisteringly hot afternoon in June 1996. I had forgotten what it's like to run out of juice . . . just trying to keep legal technique on the last of the 2.5K laps was all I could do, never mind go after the two competitors who went past me. But useful preparation for the Nationals on 20 March. |
