Race Walk – UKA and Inter-Counties Championship 10K, Leamington

Date: 06th Mar 2004
Distance: 10K
Type: Road
Comments: Not a good time or a good placing, but added some excitement to the day by winning out in a 3-way sprint finish for 10th place - quite pleasing as I lost out in my last 3-way sprint finish. I say 10th place, in fact it was 12th, but 10th male. Race walking is somewhat less enlightened than road-running and tends to classify the sexes separately - less embarassment to the lads in the younger agegroups where the girls frequently finish ahead of the boys. With no other Oxfordshire competitors, a Chiltern League-type scoring system made Oxfordshire 10th county out of 11 for the Mens Inter-Counties and 12th out of 13 taking into account both sexes and all age groups.
