This claims to be the second oldest fell race in the
country. Run on Easter Saturday most years since the 1880s.
A popular local fixture just to the north west of
Manchester.
A traditional format: sign up in the pub on the day, start
round the corner by the park gates, a little road section to
get going, then up the hill (700 foot climb), round the
tower, and straight back down by the most direct route.
Much, much harder than cross country league races. I can
hardly go up and down stairs today.
I ran this race once before, 15 years ago, and finished in
the same position. Less painful back then, though. |
