The Shakespeare Half/Full Marathon is a one/two lap event organised by the Rotary Club of Stratford upon Avon as a fundraising event. It has been running on this weekend (Shakespeare’s birthday) for over 30 years.
Each lap includes a sizeable hill (~45m climb), and at least 4 miles of The Greenway; an unsurfaced cycle track (disused railway line).
The start is in the town centre, and the finish is in the meadows alongside the River Avon. The course is mostly rural roads and passes through several pretty villages.
Perfect weather conditions today - a cool start, with no wind, warming a little throughout the morning - and dry all day.
A very well-organised and friendly event, with ample parking at the finish, numerous marshals, plentiful drinks stations and WC’s around the course.
A decent medal for all finishers – together with a banana, and a bottle of water.
With a tea/cake tent at the finish, together with baggage, changing and shower facilities nearby, this is a good alternative to London.
Congratulations to James for an excellent run to be sixth man home.
