The weather was so bad (torrential rain and heavy wind, and plenty of water underfoot), that the marathon proper was cancelled and all runners had to do the half marathon option, as announced as we waited at the start. Disappointing but probably wise - going down the Greenway involved running into a strong head wind, and there were concerns about wind chill in the second lap of the marathon. Similar weather to the Wittenham Clumps XC in March, and the marathon training run some of us did to Abingdon and back the same day. Although everyone ran together, the results of those who entered for half and full marathon were given separately. Nearly 2500 turned out in total in spite of the weather. |
