Richard Skilbeck writes: Six HRRs made the trip to Beckenham in Kent yesterday to take part in the Southern XC Champs. The event took place at a new venue, at least for us, in a lovely parkland setting in the borough of Lewisham. The weather was kind to us, mild and dry with a gentle breeze and conditions were dry underfoot. Stretches of gravel path had competitors scrambling around for shorter spikes and trail shoes beforehand! Each of the laps had a challenging climb at the back of the loop and otherwise gently undulated between open parkland and woodland.
Congratulations to Emily Strathdee who finished a sparkling 46th in a very competitive field and our Women’s team who finished a fine 25th out of 40 (Emily, Maddie, Yvonne & Rosie). We didn’t have a complete Men’s team, however, Andy Bradley and I tucked in and nicely middle packed over the 15k distance!
A pleasant afternoon was had by all and good to see the HRR flag flying in Lewisham.
