A tough and enjoyable race through some scenic Derbyshire countryside. Starting in a country park on the outskirts of Chesterfield, it was pretty much all uphill for the first three miles, with a particularly steep haul from 2-3, to reach the high point at around 300m. Spectacular views over the moors and peaks if you remembered to look! The next 2 miles were undulating before a glorious 3.5 mile downhill stretch to relax in to, at the point in the race where you'd normally be gritting your teeth and digging in. There was one more long-ish climb at the 8.5 mile mile, before a very gradual uphill to the finish. A well organised race with friendly, enthusiastic marshals. Not one for fast times, although we both clocked just outside of our Witney times from last year. |
