A testing but very enjoyable race with a village fete vibe, run on the National Trust-owned heathland behind Studland Bay. The first kilometer is a steady climb up onto the heath but with stunning views over Poole harbour and Brownsea Island as a reward. Thereafter the course snakes and undulates its way along tracks, with soft sand in places, and back to the finish on the village green. The goody bag included delicious homemade cake, and every runner was given a raffle ticket on the finish line, corresponding to their finishing position, for the post-race 'runners' raffle'. Richard won free entry into Purbeck Runners' annual 10k road race, so we could well be making a return visit in 2014! |
