The second of two ultra races for me recently. Not sure earlier in the week if I would even be able to run as I acquired an accidental injury to a toe and severe weather looked like threatening the event. Luckily a weather window occured which meant the race went ahead. The cold temperatures, significant snow and ice cover on top of mud and grass for much of the 50 miles added to the challenge, but the scenery was perfect blue skies and a full moon for the part of the journey completed by light of headtorches after sunset. The welfare of the ultra runners was a high priority for the race organisers and at no point did I feel endangered. |
