| Comments: | The White Horse Half Marathon takes place to the north of Grove on flat country lanes. Today's running conditions were good: some hazy sun with an occasional cooling cold wind. The race was well signed and well marshalled. WHH's report on the race says: With the sun on their backs Paul Fernandez (Abingdon Amblers AC) and Stephen Male (Oxford City AC) lead from the outset and by the first mile had already started to break away from the chasing pack. In a closely fought contest the result was always in doubt right up until the finish. In the end Paul Fernandez prevailed coming from behind to outsprint his rival, Stephen Male, over the final run in to the line recording a time of 1:12:39 to claim the overall victory along with the Oxfordshire County Half Marathon title. Gary Harris (Headington Road Runners) was the next athlete home securing his podium position finishing over a minute and a half adrift of the leading pair. The ladies were led home by Jude Craft (Headington Road Runners) who produced a convincing performance to claim victory just shy of six minutes clear of her closest rivals crossing the line in a time of 1:20:55 securing 19th place overall in the race. In so doing Jude smashed the Oxfordshire County Half Marathon record for the L35 category over the course by almost three minutes to claim the overall and L35 ladies’ Oxfordshire County Half Marathon titles. In the Oxfordshire Championship Prizes, Gary won the Silver SM, Jude was the Ladies Champion and Gold L35, Charlotte Harris won the Bronze SL and Sarah Grylls won the Silver V55. Jude, Charlotte and Adrienne Hopkins came first in the ladies team prize and also got the Gold team prize for the Oxfordshire Championship. Gary, Richard Skilbeck, Chris Prince and Jason Smith got the second mens team prize and the Silver team prize for the Oxfordshire Championship. Sarah also obtained a new club record, clipping the previous L55 half marathon time by just over 3 minutes. There was a good turnout from HRR: 46 of our runners took part, several of them obtaining PBs. |
