The third running of this popular road marathon, another
sell-out within days of opening back in January. Around
4,000 marathon runners line up at University of York
ready for 26.2 miles of roughly flat (well, flat as a cap
by Yorkshire standards) road, passing through the City to
begin, past the glorious Minster and then out into the
countryside.
It's a well supported race, with water every 3 miles,
sports drinks every 6 and gels at various points too. And
the unofficial aid stations of jelly babies galore along
with the shouts & high fives from the crowd that line the
route.
With a couple of switchbacks and some gentle inclines,
it's not the easiest route, but there's something about
York that makes it fast, with three of us all achieving
PBs this year.
I'd highly recommend it, if you're interested you can
pre-register for next year now - letting you sign up 2
days early in January before it goes on general sale:
